Our Story

Hi! My name is Opal, and I am a passionate artist, lover, and teacher. I created the “positive crayon project” to promote mental wellbeing and positive atmospheres in an online forum. Art for me has forever been my safe space, and as someone who has struggled with mental health for years, I aimed to create something that not only spoke to my art journey, but to my purpose as a growing teacher. The reason I teach my kids every day is to help them thrive at the things they do best, and to support them as they go through a multitude of life’s struggles. It wasn’t a normal thing to have in school growing up, and I only felt like I had a few teachers that understood me. However, I don’t want that to FOREVER be the case for those who come after me. My art is my voice, and it can represent not only me, but so many others. Follow along and enjoy creating a post of your own under the #PositiveCrayonProject on Instagram :))

Our Mission

At the Positive Crayon Project, we are dedicated to promoting mental health advocacy through creative expression. We aim to empower students to speak upon their own struggles in order to better their communities.

Our Core Values

  • Positivity: Fostering a nurturing environment filled with encouragement and self-validation.
  • Empowerment: Equipping students with the confidence to express themselves creatively.
  • Creativity: Using art as a tool to spark social and systematic change throughout schools.

Our success is measured by the impact we create, the participation we inspire, and the outcomes we achieve. We CAN make a difference!

What inspired the creation of the Positive Crayon Project?

I did! Ive always been an artist who poured their feelings and struggles into their art, and I constantly sought out a way to heal from my wounds. As a little girl I saw first-hand how awful the mental health system can be, and it broke me down into half of the person I wanted to become. Now that I've grown, I let my experiences serve as a pathway to a better future. I want to educate and guide others as they face their own struggles, just like how I faced mine.
